Heart disease is the number one cause of death accounting for one in every four deaths. Heart disease is due to preventable risk factors including lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Hip Hop is an Art by Heart
The average death from heart disease is 65 years and older. Several Hip Hop artists such as Big Pun (28 yrs old), Old Dirty Bastard (33 yrs old), Nate Dogg (41 yrs old), Heavy D (44 yrs old) and Phife Dawg (45 yrs old) died more than 20 years earlier than predicated death for their age. #RIP
Hip Hop is a platform of social change with the goal of educating and empowering the people. Prevention and health education have been shown to be the most clinically and economically effective method of addressing health issues. Our community should utilize the engaging platform of Hip Hop to educate people about health and specifically heart disease.
